You must have taken tons of tests throughout your high school career. Now looking at the future you will be taking tons of tests as well that means you have to be well prepared  for the upcoming exams. Both children and parents can find the SAT preparation process stressful. Preparation is stressful for the test-taker because the stakes are high, and it is stressful for the parents of the test-taker since they have little control. Start prep early. The single biggest thing a parent can do to help their child succeed on the SAT is to help their child get started early. The best time to start prep is the summer before junior year.

The few tips that I would like to mention are:

Tips 1: Get a brief idea what to expect on the test:-

The SAT test is one of the most known tests if the Student is planning to study abroad. The most important rule to remember for the SAT is that there is only one correct answer to each question. You should be able to eliminate everything else. On the test, elimination is your number one strategy. Instead of finding reasons why certain options might work, look for reasons to eliminate most of the answers. You should be extremely picky about which answers you eliminate. This is especially true when writing and reading. When a question seems subjective, keep reminding you that it is an illusion. Correct choices all have good reasons and it’s your job to figure out what those reasons are until you narrow your options to one.

Tip 2: Always Understand Your Mistakes

This is vital if you want to see dramatic improvements. If you take the time to understand each mistake you make on practice questions, why you made it, and what you will do to avoid it in the future, you’re virtually guaranteed a good score on the test.

Mistakes usually fall into one of four categories:

  • #1: Content weakness
  • #2: Time pressure
  • #3: Question comprehension issue
  • #4: Careless error

After you finish a practice test, catalog all the questions you answer incorrectly so you can work on detecting error patterns. Did you consistently answer a particular type of math question wrong (content weakness)? Did you keep missing the words “except” or “least” (careless error) in questions? Did you consistently miss questions at the end of sections (time pressure?)

Whatever your issues, you have to understand them completely so you can fix the problems you’re having and see positive changes in your scores! In order to see dramatic results, you need to do this. The more time you take to analyse why you make mistakes on practice questions and how you will avoid them in the future, the greater your chances of scoring well on the test will be.

Tip 3 – Make a Concrete Study Plan

You might believe that making a list of materials to review is based on the results of the diagnostic test that is counted as a SAT study plan.  When we mention that we should have a proper study plan, we mean it as a step by step gives you an idea from where to begin. To get a better SAT score you need to set your target. Then use your target score and that will help you shape your studying.

Tip 4: Study the Content:

This is probably one of the most common and easiest methods to prepare your Sat examination and while it is considered important, it is most effective when practiced with the rest of the Sat prep tips. Some raw content knowledge will only get you so far on test day.

The SAT’s content can be studied in many ways. In order to pass the test, you need to learn lots of grammar, active reading skills, as well as basic math and formulas. The College Board’s overview of Key Content Features on the SAT can serve as a jumping off point for exploring the rest of the College Board’s resources. The Khan Academy provides content resources that you should review.

Tip 5: Study Test Strategy

Simply knowing the material on the test won’t guarantee your success. You’ll also need to know how to take the SAT, which is a separate skill. To start with, don’t leave any question blank. There is no penalty for wrong answers, so you should always make your best guess even if you are not sure of an answer. Make sure you have an idea about time management strategies, Includes skim reading on the Reading test, answering questions as you go for Writing and Language. But don’t apply these strategies blindly. Save yourself some time and energy by knowing what is required of you on each section and how to show your knowledge.

Tip 6: Know Your Calculator

Taking this simple step on test day will maximize your efficiency. Make sure you use a calculator with fresh batteries that you are familiar with. Practice on the same calculator that you will use on the test also learns how to use the functions you are most likely to encounter. Be sure to write down your calculator use on paper so you can show how you arrived at an answer if it isn’t one of the options. A wrong button should not force you to start over from the beginning.

Tip 7: After the Exam, Take Notes:

Once you have finished taking the SAT, write down everything you can about the areas that surprised you or caused you difficulty. It is also a good idea to write down any pacing issues you encountered, content that you felt unprepared for, or questions you were unable to clarify. On the actual SAT, you should learn from your mistakes, just as you did on the practice tests. If you’re like the majority of college applicants applying to competitive schools, you will take the SAT more than once. And that is a good thing. Generally scores increase after your first SAT, and one way to ensure this is by learning as much as you can from the experience. The notes you take while the test is still fresh in your mind will become important study tools for you to review both on your own and with your study group, mentors, or tutors.

To sum up , I would just mention that Taking notes and jot-downing all the important point are considered useful as it not only guides you but also gives you an idea about how you can manage your time. If you follow these tips you a detailed idea of what kinds of topics you have covered well and what topics require more study. Focus plays a very important role, “Stay Focused and Work Hard”.
